KRAV MAGA
-
Krav Maga [קְרַב מַגָּע ]("contact-combat") is a military self-defence and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces (Shin Bet and Mossad) that derived from a combination of techniques sourced from Boxing, Wrestling, Aikido, Judo and Karate, along with realistic fight training.
-
Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extreme efficiency. It was derived from the street-fighting experience of Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler as a means of defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, in the mid-to-late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his migration to Israel, he began to provide lessons on combat training to what was to become the IDF.
-
From the outset, the original concept of Krav Maga was to take the most simple and practical techniques of other fighting styles (originally European boxing, wrestling and street fighting) and to make them rapidly teachable to military conscripts.
-
Krav Maga has a philosophy emphasizing aggression, and simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers. Krav Maga has been used by the Israel Defense Forces' special forces units, the security apparatus, and by regular infantry units.Closely related variations have been developed and adopted by Israeli law enforcement and intelligence organizations.
-
Krav Maga is a pure self defense and striking system. There are no competitions or showcases for self defense scenarios. We train in Krav Maga to help us avoid and survive the worst case scenarios. If someone is threatening your life, we train on how to avoid that scenario to begin with, and if it is already beyond the point of no return, we are trained to use the most effective strikes and techniques to prevail, while under extreme stress. There are no uniforms and no traditions. We do not train in Krav Maga to start fights or show off. We train to save our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. As quoted by the founder Imi Litchenfeld, we train in Krav Maga “so that one may walk in peace.”
-
No experience is necessary to begin Krav Maga. In the beginning, you will learn basic stances, striking, techniques for falling and getting up safely, and basic defenses against common attacks including chokes and headlocks. In addition to learning how to deal with an attack, you will train to perform better under stress and learn awareness and prevention techniques that will help keep you from getting into problematic situations.
-
After mastering the basics, advanced students will train to deal with multiple simultaneous attackers, weapons, complicated situations, and learn advanced combative and weapon techniques (standing up or on the ground).
The Benefits of Learning Krav Maga
LEARN INCREDIBLE SELF DEFENSE
-
Krav Maga is considered one of the best forms of self-defense in the world. In class, students are put into stressful situations to help them hone their skills to be prepared for anything. The lights may be dimmed or loud music played to disorient them. While this situation may not sound enjoyable, the best part of Krav Maga training is that it teaches you to be prepared for real-life situations, such as a street fight, mugging, or attempted sexual assault, which will never occur in ideal situations. With Krav Maga, you’ll be prepared for any situation and can respond accordingly .
INCREASE YOUR FITNESS LEVEL
-
Because of the intense nature of Krav Maga, it greatly improves your fitness once you start training. Any person can begin learning Krav Maga, no matter your size or fitness level because the techniques do not rely on brute strength. Most studios incorporate cardio and strength training into classes, so you’ll definitely notice results after a few weeks.
GAIN MORE SELF- CONFIDENCE
-
Knowing that you can protect yourself in virtually any physical confrontation is sure to increase your confidence. You’ll feel better about your physical appearance and yourself because you know you’re working on a unique set of skills that may actually be useful at some point; these new skills could potentially save your life.
BECOME MORE ALERT
-
Krav Maga helps you focus your senses and be more aware of the environment around you. Once you begin training, you’ll learn to tune into your surroundings and be able to evaluate threatening situations. With this newfound perception, you can remove yourself from a potentially hostile situation before it escalates.
LOWER STRESS LEVEL
-
Overall, beginning Krav Maga training will lower your stress levels. Any form of intense physical exercise achieves this goal and by taking regular classes, you’ll constantly be working on your stress levels. Krav Maga also uses a fair amount of aggression, which you can get out of your system in class, then feel more at ease throughout the rest of your day.
